"in my shed"...restoration news from men in sheds up and down the land

26-6-06 tom's magnum 8 restoration is now complete and well documented on his website

pre-magnum era...

scow. while the winged skiff was emerging in the northern hemisphere, reliable strong winds in australia and new zealand led to the development of flat scow shapes. these two are from the 70s and still racing in the UK. the yellow scow is mike ewart and the white one T Dunderdale.

another 70's design a skol design made in glassfibre by rondar. tiny winglets are evident.

this looks even earlier with no wings at all. Believed to be a europa design that froze in time to become the europe class and achieve olympic status.

magnum force...

Stuart Mander sent these pics of his smart restored Magnum 6 which apparently does regular combat with a Magnum 5 at the same club.

magnum 3 still going strong for mike iszatt. "I have been racing every other weekend for the last 20 (approx) years. STILL winning races on the NEW handicap in a fleet of RS's, contendors etc. This boat is not kept in a box and raced once or twice a year. I gave it a (last?) major refit last year I may now sail it until it falls to pieces like me!!"

Magnum 5 owned by Alex Shaw - note the '80s drilled out boom.

the rudder gantry is a later addition

the success of the magnum series spawned many imitators...
